A reminder from the Windsor Police Service.
Constable Steve Betteridge is asking the public and businesses to be aware of counterfeit bills in the city.
As AM800 News reported earlier this week, Windsor police charged three people following a counterfeit investigation.
Betteridge says in this case, one business accepted a counterfeit $100 US bill, while two others did not.
"With counterfeit bills it can be sometimes extremely hard to tell if it is genuine or not," says Betteridge. "So what you have to do is take your time with it, feel the bill, look at the bill, see what you think and measure that also with the scenario because quite often the fraudster will want to launder this money."
He says they're also coming from all over.
"Through our investigation all different areas, sometimes from the states, sometimes down the 401 but that's always part of the investigation to try and determine that and dealing with our justice partners to find that out."
Betteridge wants businesses to take their time, feel the bills and have a close look at them before accepting them.
He says in the latest investigation, the businesses called Windsor police right away to report the incidents.
