Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick says officers will not carry naloxone, despite a change to the Police Services Act.
The provincial government says the Special Investigations Unit no longer has to investigate officers who unsuccessfully administer the medication to someone overdosing on opioids.
Frederick addressed the media on Tuesday and gave a stern warning.
"Those we are engaged in this activity the likelihood of harm and death is real," says Frederick.
He pointed out the four suspected drug overdose deaths that occurred over the weekend.
Frederick says the four parties that died were all men and there were no commonalities between the cases.
He says three different drugs were believed to be involved.
"It causes concern and as an organization and I think as individuals we know any narcotic whether it's illicit or a narcotic that's administered through prescription if it's abused, it can cause you harm and if it's abused significantly it can cause you death," says Frederick.
He adds the overdoses occurred in different parts of the city and the ages varied.
"I think the youngest was maybe 20 or so and all the way to 54 I think," says Frederick.
