Windsor is one of the most affordable cities in all of Canada to rent real estate.
According to a new report from rental site Pad Mapper — out of 26 markets, Windsor is second best, with an average cost of $710/month for a one bedroom and $930/month for two bedrooms.
Daniel Hofgartner of Buckingham Realty tells CTV News, the report doesn't reflect the current market.
"One and two bedrooms are going for anywhere from $800-$1,200/month and that's relatively inexpensive for rental in Canada," he says. "A few years a go when we had a high vacancy rate, landlords were begging for tenants to move in."
Even St Clair College feels the pinch — Spokesperson John Fairley says there aren't enough rentals in the city to meet demand and building a third residence has been discussed.
"But we've had conversations all around the city and in the county with private developers saying ok, if we were to build this, how many people? what would it look like? We know there's a market, they have to live somewhere."
The report listed Toronto as the most expensive rental city in the country, followed by Vancouver, B.C., Burnaby B.C. and Barrie, Ont.
