The project engineer is hoping for a lot of restaurants on the ground floor

The Renovation of  the Walker Power Building is taking longer than expected.

The multi-million dollar project to re-open the four-storey building at the corner of Riverside Dr. and Devonshire Rd.,  is proving more difficult than first expected.

"It's been a little bit of a slow process as a result, things keep coming up but we're working our way through it," says Engineer Piero Aleo.

He says there were a lot of challenges with the concrete structure.

"We found that things weren't aligned as well as we thought so a lot of cutting and massaging and grinding to make all the windows line up vertically and horizontally."

Aleo is hoping for a lot of restaurants on the ground floor.

"We think it's going to be a great destination for Walkerville, we have a few lined up already and it's going to be very exciting," he says. "We want to draw people and pedestrians and we want people to come here and enjoy Walkerville and the City of Windsor."

The goal is to have the former Walkerville Power Building encased by the end of the year with tenants moving in, mid-2019.
