Welcome Week is in full swing at the University of Windsor.
It's a chance for students to meet with teachers and learn more about the campus as the new school year gets underway.
Fifth-year-student Angelica Shiacca says Welcome Week is a great opportunity to show new students what campus has to offer.
"Meeting with your professors, gaining experience doing all kinds of student activities with the student groups on campus, and getting to know your peers is a wonderful experience," says Shiacca. "Having such a close connection with all of the different students and different faculties that we have here, that's why people choose Windsor, and that's where the pride comes from."
Gillian Steven is stepping on campus for the first time.
She chose UWindsor on the recommendation of her art teachers and the atmosphere at the celebration added to what she thinks will be an exciting school year.
"It's really does mean people who actually care about what they're doing here (UWindsor)," says Steven. "I was actually very moved by what they had to say in there. I feel like we're a family now."
While it's Steven's first Welcome Week, it's the tenth and final one for the unverisity's president — Alan Wildeman.
The sixth president of the university will step down from the position in June of next year.
"This is my tenth Welcome Week, it's the last one and I feel very sad about the fact that it is the last one," says Wildeman. "I also believe the university is in a very good position, and it's in a great position to move forward for the next decade."
Wildeman took to the stage setup at the St. Denis Centre for the Welcome Week celebration and played a welcoming song to new students with his mandolin and a group of student musicians.
