Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara is reacting to a recording from a New Democrat incumbent in Windsor-Tecumseh.
In the recording, which has been edited, Hardcastle can be heard calling voters "stupid" and said residents drank McNamara's "Kool-Aid" among other insults directed at the successful candidates in the 2014 election.
Hardcastle has since apologized publically and tells AM800 News she has apologized to all involved, but McNamara says that isn't the case.
"Not that I'm looking for one, at the end of the day it is what it is, but no, there was never any communication," he says. "I can't speak for the other members of past councils and also references made to the deputy mayor."
McNamara says it takes a thick skin to hold a seat in office, so he's more concerned with Hardcastle's lack of respect for voters.
"The electorate is always right, I think that's the disappointing piece in making those references saying 'voters are stupid' because they elect certain people," added McNamara, who has endured a few defeats of his own on the election trail. "Respect the vote and then move on. That's why it's critical for anybody, whether you win an election or not, you do it very humbly and when you lose, lose with grace."
Hardcastle says the 40-minute call was recorded without her knowledge.
