New condominium development is booming in Tecumseh.
Council has given the green light to two condo projects which will see the addition of 161 units in the town.
The Harbour Club development will be going into the former Pud's Marina site at Tecumseh Rd. and Brighton Rd. and will feature 64 high-end condos and a private marina.

The other is a six storey, 97 unit complex in the town's core at Tecumseh Rd. and Southfield Dr.
Mayor Gary McNamara says there's a need in Tecumseh and across the entire region.
"We're seeing the boomers and the empty-nesters moving into another category of home. They're looking for town homes, condominiums, scaling down in terms of size, square-footage. So we're happy to be able to acknowledge the fact that we've got great developers that are willing to invest in the community."
He says these developments are helping to keep people in the community.
"What's significant about Pud's Marina, I was asking the developer, "Where are they coming from? Are they coming from Toronto, GTA?" and he said, "No. They're all from the region and most of them are from Tecumseh." Which is great news because if they're moving there and selling their homes, that creates other opportunities for younger families to move in."

McNamara says focus will now turn to affordable housing.
"It's important to build a diversity of homes and I think what we're wanting to add into the mix is affordable housing as well where young families that have grown up in our community can afford to stay here. We're going to be working hand-in-glove with a lot of our developers in the community to make sure that there's a really good cross section of homes."
Construction on the Harbour Club development is expected to begin in the next few weeks while work on the building at Tecumseh Rd. and Southfield Dr. will likely begin in the fall.
McNamara adds several other projects are in the works with more announcements expected in the coming months.
