Employees at Syncreon Automotive have voted 99.9% in favour of strike action.
More than 400 workers at the Windsor logistics firm voted Sunday morning at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
Syncreon is the last stop in the supply chain to Fiat Chrysler's Windsor Assembly Plant as part of its Just in Time Delivery System — meaning a strike could put thousands out of work.
Unifor Local 195 Vice President Tammy Pomerleau tells CTV Windsor the major points of contention are money and respect.
"Wage has been a big thing over the last several years, they've only had like a $3.50 increase in the last 12-years and that plays hard on the people. Everything's gone up [in price], it's time for their wages to go up too," she says.
Second Vice President Emile Nabbout says employees want to see equitable pay for what the union sees as comparable work.
"We heard their voice and we're going to carry their voice through negotiation, hopefully, hopefully, we will be able to reach an agreement," he says. "They need to be part of it, they need to be part of every success in this company."
If a deal isn't reached the ripple effect could be huge, grinding production at FCA and its suppliers to a halt.
Nabbout says that's not something workers want, but they're ready to pull the trigger if the time comes.
"We don't want Chrysler to be in any type of trouble," says Nabbout. "Now we are committed to sit with the company. They have our proposal and hopefully the company is getting the message that the membership is willing to take whatever action necessary to make sure we have a fair and good collective agreement."
Officials from Syncreon were unavailable for comment Sunday, but both parties are set to resume talks Monday.
The current collective agreement expires March 31 — it was signed back in September of 2016.
