Workforce Windsor Essex is trying to shine a light on different business sectors in Windsor-Essex — including the agriculture sector.
Area high school students travelled to Kingsville on Tuesday where they were given a tour of Mucci farms.
The local greenhouse operation employs about 1,200 people and this is the second year in a row CCH teacher Paul Prsa has taken a class there.
"It's not all about the auto industry in Windsor, there's another industry with our neighbours next door," says Prsa. "When we walked out the kids had eyes that were this big saying 'wow, we never knew there was something like this going on.' "
Prsa believes there is no reason that people living in the city can't have a career in agriculture and Mucci officials agree.
"This is modern farming!" says company spokesperson Ajit Saxena. "We are in such a different realm and we consider this the future of farming its sustainable its local its regional and we have so many opportunities because of the nature of the business."
Ayden is one of the students who attended Mucci on Tuesday and says it's something he would like to explore.
"I'm really interested in how environmentally friendly it is, pesticides stuff like that I do have younger siblings so I'm always concerned about health and stuff."
According to the Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, there will be an additional 7,900 jobs in Windsor and Essex County over the next 10 years.
