86 public health unit nurses in Windsor have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.
The members of the Ontario Nurses Association local 8 have been on strike since March 8 demanding better wages.
After 12 hours of negotiations Tuesday, a collective agreement was reached and recommended by the union.
Local President Barb Deter says it includes a 4 percent wage increase over the three year deal along with some benefit improvements.
She wouldn't disclose the results of the vote.
"We are getting back to work and that's what we all want to do," says Deter.
Deter says the tone of these negotiations was different.
"We were in negotiations for about 12 hours yesterday and we really had a good negotiations, which we hadn't had in the past."
A release from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit states it's expected that all of the public health nurses will return to work on Friday, May 10, pending ratification by our Board of Health.
"We are delighted to announce that we have reached a tentative collective agreement with our public health nurses. This is a deal that was recommended by ONA and that both sides worked tremendously hard to achieve," says CEO Theresa Marentette.
The agreement expires in 2021.
