Morning mass at a Montreal church took an unexpected turn on Friday.
A 9-1-1 call was placed around 8:40am after a Catholic priest was stabbed in front of dozens of stunned worshippers at Montreal's St. Joseph's Oratory.
When officers arrived at the landmark church, a male suspect was already detained by security guards.
According to a man was sitting near the front of the church, says he saw a tall man, who appeared to be in his 30s, get up from a pew and quickly walk into the sanctuary to attack the Oratory's rector, Reverend Claude Grou.
He says people quickly restrained the suspect, who did not struggle.
Police spokeswoman Caroline Chevrefils says the victim suffered minor injuries to his upper body and was taken to hospital and the suspect is in custody being questioned.
