There will be another boost to the Canada Child Tax Benefit.
Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Jean-Yves Duclos says the increase will come into effect July 20.
Duclos says the increase is part of a broader plan to help middle class families.
"Because in 2019, it's middle class families that help grow the economny and are investing their skills and their businesses and their children," says Duclos.
University of Windsor Political Science Professor Rebecca Major told CTV News she doesn't believe the increase was neccessarily a political move.
"I think that it is an attempt to reach out to certain voting segments. I think that it might play a part in it, but I don't know that it's going to be enough at this point in time with everything else that's happening politically," says Major.
This is the second year in a row there will be an increase to the benefit.
The payments vary from family to family and are based on income, as well as the number of children.
The maximum payments will be $6,639 for each child up to age five, and up to $5,602 per child aged six to 17 starting on July 20.
