Schlegel Villages says it's committed to getting a deal done with members of Unifor Local 2458.
Unifor National Representative Chris Taylor says personal support workers are overworked and it's been proven PSW shortages are contributing to patient deaths in Ontario.
Talks between Unifor and Schlegel Villages broke down in January, but Schlegel Villages' Matt Drown says the company is willing to get back to the table.
"We look forward to continued negotiations and the other offers we've provided to the union are in line with those that have been accepted by them [Unifor] with other operators," he says.
Downs tells CTV Windsor a work stoppage is not what's best for the patients and their families.
"We are providing a sensitive level of service to the residents here and family members are concerned about their loved ones so, anytime there's discussion about job action, there could be cause for concern," he says.
He admits a shortage of PSW's is affecting care homes across the province.
"Staffing and under staffing is something that is a cause for concern for long-term care homes, for hospitals, for the health care industry in general so, we would certainly share those concerns," says Drown.
Unifor Local 2458 represents more than 400 long-term care workers in Windsor.
The workers previous collective agreement expired at the end of November.
Drown says both sides are in talks to set a date to get back to the bargaining table.
