Red Wings legend Ted Lindsay has passed away.
Several reports out of Detroit indicate Lindsay died overnight at the age of 93.
Lindsay played for the Red Wings in the 1940's and 50's, helping the team win four Stanley Cups.
He played 1,068 games in the NHL, which also included a stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, scoring 379 goals and 851 points while collecting 1,808 penalty minutes.
Lindsay was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966 and his number seven was retired by the Red Wings.
In April 2010, the National Hockey League Players' Association, which Lindsay helped initiate in 1957, honoured him by reintroducing the Lester B. Pearson Award as the Ted Lindsay Award. The trophy is awarded annually to the NHL's most outstanding player through the regular season as voted on by the players.
In January, 2017, Lindsay was part of the first group of players to be named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.
