What has been described as magical and a nature lovers paradise will be accessible by boat in Windsor this week.
A boat to bring people over to Peche Island will begin operating this Wednesday at 10am, pre-registration is required by calling Lakeview Marina.
The city acquired the island from the province in 1999 and the city set aside $1-million to purchase a small boat, for shoreline rehabilitation, put down dirt paths and signage.
Windsor Naturalist Karen Cedar says it is nature at its purest.
"You really feel like you are not in Windsor, that you are some place unique and different," she says. "There are dirty trails so watch your step, take your time, this is not a place to run through, we want you to walk slowly, enjoy, listen and just breath in the air."
There is also a 'pack-in and pack-out' policy meaning what people bring on the island, people must bring back to the mainland. There aren't any garbage cans.

"I know when we were on Peche Island day, we have 500 people come over in a day and the island is cleaner than when the day starts," says Cedar. "So I'm very excited to have people come over here and experience it and I know that people are going to love it and will want to protect it as much as we do."
It's about a 2km walk around the island where people will see 200 year old trees, the ruins of part of Hiram Walker's summer cottage, wildlife and canals.
The cost for the boat ride is $5/person.
