The death of a teen who is suspected to have overdosed on opioids this past weekend has a local drug death prevention group taking action.
Brandon Bailey of the Windsor Overdose Prevention Society told AM800 listeners on the Lynn Martin Show they've already hosted one safe injection site.
He says they'll continue to host the unsanctioned site, but admits letting people know about where and when is a problem.
"We opened up the site in an undisclosed location and I can honestly say two people came and used," says Bailey. "[It would be helpful] if we were able to go and make it known to the greater community. I've seen that comment and people saying, how are people supposed to know if you're not disclosing the location."
Bailey says making the times and places of the safe injection sites public creates a difficulty.
"I would love to disclose the location but I don't need the police to show up 15 minutes after we set up or be waiting for us when we get there and tell us we can't set up. Because every time we can't set up, like I said we had two people that came in an used. Did either of them overdose? No, but if they would have we could have been there for them."
