Ontario's Chamber of Commerce wants the province to expand online alcohol sales, cut taxes for some wine producers and boost efforts to stop social harms as it loosens booze laws.
It's among the recommendations contained in a report released Monday by the chamber called "Refreshing the Sale of Beverage Alcohol in Ontario".
The report says the province has a patchwork of policies and regulations it should modernize as it expands alcohol sales to new retail stores.
Local Chamber President Rakesh Naidu says the sale of alcohol has a ripple effect that benefits agriculture, tourism and hospitality and retail in all corners of the province.
"The power of the beverage alcohol sector to be a force for economic growth extends beyond just the expected industries," says Naidu.
The report also recommends taxes for craft cider producers should be aligned with those who make craft beer.
The report comes on the same day as a study suggests alcohol-related health problems are a growing problem on Ontario's emergency rooms.
