An investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is now on scene after a fire at El-Mayor restaurant on Wyandotte Street East.
The investigator arrived in Windsor shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday and started a preliminary investigation.
Windsor Fire Deputy Chief Andrea DeJong says the investigation is expected to take a couple of days.
She says with the roof collapsing, it's expected heavy machinery is needed.
"The roof has collapsed within it and because of the collapse it kind of affected some of the crews ability to put the fire out because there were some hot spots being buried underneath the debris that was falling from the roof," says DeJong.
DeJong says the building is completely gutted.
"There's a significant loss," says DeJong. "El-Mayor, the interior of it is completely damaged, fire and water damage. "So at this point it won't be escalating or operating at any point in the near future."

She says Windsor Fire will provide an update on Friday.
"I would expect this to be on for at least a couple of days and because of the damage inside El-Mayor and being able to get to it , we fully expect there to be heavy equipment involved so that will kind of take place over the next day or so," says DeJong.
As heard on AM800 News Thursday morning, the fire broke out after midnight.
When crews arrived, they found a fully engulfed building with flames shooting through the roof.
Two aerial trucks were used to help put out the blaze.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.
As of 3 p.m., crews were still putting out hot spots. The section of Wyandotte Street East re-opened just before 6 p.m.
