A new transmission line has been ordered to meet growing electricity demands across Windsor-Essex.
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has requested Hydro One develop and construct a transmission line from Chatham to north of Leamington.
The rare addition of a transmission line is expected to cost between $115 and 150-million.
IESO Vice President Terry Young says they constantly monitor where there are increases in electricity needs.
"That's particularly true in the Leamington area, that with the growth in the greenhouse industry, with the growth in the cannabis industry. We're now seeing a need for new resources because we're seeing that the demand for electricity could double over the next five years."
