It took a little longer than expected but a new restaurant finally opened its doors in Ford City.
Work began on The Grand Cantina at 1000 Drouillard Rd. back in November 2017, so everyone knew it was coming. When the open sign flipped on Friday there wasn't an empty seat in the house.
Co-owner Tom Scully tells AM800 News the neighbourhood — that many feel is in need of an upswing — has been very supportive.
"We look to work with Ford City for as long as we're here, we're very excited to be a part of this area, it's a beautiful place and the people around that have stopped in have been very positive with their feedback and we're very appreciative of that feedback," he says.

The original plan was to be open in the New Year, but Scully says it took a little longer than expected to make sure everything was perfect.
"It started back in November and just put that seven month project underway and now it's finally coming to fruition," he says. "Couldn't have been at a better time, the weather is perfect and the whole city's excited."
Scully says The Grand Cantina will be more than just a neighbourhood taco joint.
"Everything in house including the tortilla and the corn, but we're not just a taco place. Our fun Chef John wanted to throw on a burger, so we put on our classic burger and it's absolutely phenomenal, "he says. ”It's a focus on really amazing street food from Central America and South Asia."
The Grand Cantina is located on the corner of Drouillard Rd. and Whelpton St. in Ford City.
