A new laneway has opened to help address traffic issues at two south Windsor public schools.
A ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning officially opened the $850,000 laneway located between Glenwood Public School and Vincent Massey High School.
The two-lane, one-way laneway will allow parents to safely drop off their children at both schools without causing traffic congestions on Norfolk or Liberty Streets.
The city had received complaints from area residents of drivers were blocking the roadway or blocking people's driveways.
Windsor's Parking Enforcement Supervisor Bill Kralovensky says it should help ease the traffic problems around both schools.
"If you go out on Liberty St. today where it used to always be just pandemonium, today there is only a few violators here," says Kralovensky. "Maybe they didn't get the word yet or whatever, but we will give them a couple of days, let it get rolling and Monday we will be back here and I hope we don't have to write any tickets."

Public School Board Chair Kim McKinley says both schools have made parents aware of the laneway and how to use it. "There will be flyers going out and have already been given out, there has been some info about that."
Parent Angela Robertson used the laneway Friday morning and believes it will make a difference in the neighbourhood.
"It is nice," she says. "We have just moved to Windsor so it was under construction when we started school so we were parking down the street, everybody walking them in, so this is nice especially when it is chilly out we can drop them off and be on our way and it is a lot safer I think."
The Greater Essex County District School Board covered the entire cost of the project through its renewal fund.
