A Windsor mother is looking for support after she learned the man who killed her young son will be eligible for day parole next year.
In June 2005, then 43-year-old Douglas Lambier killed 9-year-old Brandon Burchell.
Lambier was in a relationship with the boy's grandmother when he smothered the boy to death at an apartment on Peter St.
He pleaded guilty in 2006 to second degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.
Police had received a call around 5:04am after Lambier was worried that Brandon wasn't breathing.
When officers arrived, the boy was found without vital signs.
He was wearing shorts with the button and zipper undone.
Court heard Lambier gave the boy a beer to loosen him up. The crown believes Lambier tried to sexually assault the boy but he fought back.
There was no evidence of sexual abuse.
Lambier accepted responsibility but had no specific memory of the events.
Brandon's mother Tina White says a hearing will take place in April after Lambier applied for day parole.
"He murdered an innocent child and I don't think that he should be walking any street for another child to be another victim," says White. "I'm very upset. He hasn't even done 15 years yet."
Lambier had two previous convictions of sexually assaulting two children.
White has launched a petition calling for Lambier to remain behind bars.
