A downtown restaurant is asking for the public's help after an early morning robbery Sunday.
An unidentified man was caught on video around 12:30am kicking in the back door of Mario's On PelissierĀ and smashing a cash register.
Chef Jake Silani tells AM800 News staff left the location on Pelissier St. near University Ave. just minutes before the robbery occurred.
"We were locking up around 12:15am, we locked up and then on the security footage somebody showed up around 12:30am and kicked in the back door," he says. "They struggled with the cash register and smashed it on the ground and took all the cash that was inside."
He says there are already a few leads.
"He seems to be a character that's been seen downtown before so we have a couple leads and we've even had a few people call the restaurant saying they recognize the person," says Silani. "Hopefully we'll be able to identify them soon."
At the end of the day Silani says it's just stuff and Mario's opened for business using hand written receipts.
"We're just disappointed that it happened and now we're just kind of looking for a new cash register but other than that we're not too upset," he says. "Whoever did this was clearly doing it out of desperation and we hope they can get the help they need."
