A 16-year-old Massy student and musician organized a concert in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Flutist Anumita Jain hosted Music for Mental Health at Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church in south-Windsor with four of her friends Saturday.
Jain tells AM800 News she's been thinking of a way to make a difference through music for years.
"It really started off when I was in Grade 7 or Grade 8 … I really wanted to do something with music and do something for the community," she says. "Music has such an impact on mental health, it can either put you in a really sad mood or it can lift you right out of that sad dump and make you feel really, really happy."
Jain performs with the Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra and says she was inspired to focus on mental health after playing a recent event for the Alzheimer's Society.
Mental health is such a problem in our community, I see it with my friends, and I see it in my school ... students often are really stressed and struggling. I really wanted to do something around that," she added.
A goal of $1,500 was set for the fundraiser - the event raked in more than $2,500.
