The murder of 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh is having an impact in Windsor-Essex.
More than 200 people attended a vigil at the Temple Beth El in south Windsor Tuesday night.
The ceremony was held to honour the victims of Saturday morning's shooting south of the border.
Noah Tepperman has been a member of the Temple Beth El congregation his entire life.
He says seeing the community come together like this means a lot.
"Moments of tragedy like this, they're awful, but they also manage to create unique opportunities. This kind of hatred, the greatest opportunity to transform that kind of experience is through getting to know people and through education."
Tepperman says residents from all walks of life and all faiths wanted to be a part of the service.
"To see so many people from the Windsor-Essex community who are doing more than just liking a post, but actually coming out to something like this or calling people that they know and saying, "I'm thinking of you because I know this happened." That's really powerful."

He says the support has been overwhelming at such a tragic time.
"When we see these things as not directly happening to a community that we're a part of we tend to sort of stand more on the sidelines and for us to be able to make the change we have to really step into those moments and say, "That's not enough," because we are all in this together. And unfortunately, there's no shortage of opportunities."
The victims, ranging in age from 54 to 97, were attending a service at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh when the shooting took place.
Six others were wounded in the attack as well.
The alleged shooter, 46-year-old Robert Bowers, has been charged with 29 criminal counts and could be facing the death penalty.
