In December 2014, Brush broke into Kaake's home on Benjamin Ave while she was out.
When she returned home, Brush beat her and choked her before sliting her throat. He then set the house on fire to eliminate any evidence.
An autopsy found 45 different area of injuries on Kaake's body including defensive injuries.
Justice Bruce Thomas called it "senseless brutality" against a vulnerable and defenceless woman in her own home.
He acknowledged the fact that she was seven and a half months pregnant increases the tragic loss to the family.
