The Windsor Lancer's Men's basketball team is searching for a new coach.
The Department of Athletes has announced that Chris Oliver is stepping down as head coach after fourteen seasons with the program, effective immediately.
He helped capture six OUA west division regular season titles, two OUA west playoff titles, a Wilson Cup Ontario Championship and earned three berths to the U Sports National Championships.
"I'm lucky, I lived my dream," says Oliver. "I always wanted to be a head coach at the university level."
While at the university, he earned the OUA Men's Basketball Coach of the Year Award three times, and the Gino Fracas Award as the University of Windsor Coach of the Year.
Oliver says he has many memories but one stands out.
"The obvious one is winning the OUA championship on our home court in my second year and just the incredible support from the community and the university in that event," says Oliver. "It was just jammed packed in the St. Denis Centre and obviously I'll always remember that."
Athletic Director Mike Havey says Oliver was able to elevate the performance level of the program and under his leadership, the Lancers were a consistent U Sports top ten program for more than a decade.
Oliver stepped down for personal reasons.
