Now that the long Victoria Day weekend has passed, staff at Windsor Regional Hospital are getting ready for the busy 'unofficial start' of trauma season.
From last year's May long weekend until the September long weekend, Windsor Regional Hospital treated 141 severe traumatically injured patients--about 40% of the annual total trauma cases.
Hospital Trauma Program Manager Diane Bradford says every year there is a substantial increase beginning the long Victoria day weekend.
The most common cause of injury in 2017 was motor vehicle crashes mostly due to impairment and distraction.
