An east Windsor family has been robbed of their Christmas spirit after a grinch stole their new holiday lawn ornaments.
72-year-old Ronald Renaud says he and his wife Mary had their $200 display of two reindeer and a sleigh stolen from the front lawn of their Wyandotte Street East home in the last week.
"You have to be pretty low to go and steal somebody's Christmas ornaments," says Renaud. "Man, there's no reason for that."
Renaud tells CTV Windsor they only had their decorations for four days before they were stolen.
He admits he and his wife love decorating for Christmas, and have done it for years — in spite of the fact Renaud suffers from leukemia and lost his leg to a bad train accident when he was young.
"It's Christmas, It's Christmas eh? You got to spread the joy it is it's Christmas."
But now, Renaud tells CTV Windsor they will only decorate inside their house and only shine lights outdoors.
"I ain't putting nothing out this year. That's it for this year."
The Renaud's did file a report with Windsor police.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge of the Windsor Police Service, admits the theft of Christmas decorations is very rare, but he admits it does happen and suggests residents protect their property.
"Your name, your address something identifiable on there, that could assist if we came into contact with that item down the road."
Betteridge also suggests keeping your decorations close to your well-lit home could prevent theft.
Renaud's story has gone viral on social media since appearing on CTV Windsor, with a number of residents suggesting they will help the Renaud's decorate their home for the holidays.
