Residents take part in a neighbourhood cleanup of their park and alleys
Ford City in Windsor is looking a little cleaner, thanks to Earth Day Celebrations.
Residents took to the streets Monday afternoon, starting at Garry Dugal Park on Drouillard Rd. picking up garbage in the park and in alleyways.
"I wanted to clean up my neighbourhood and have my kids be proud of the neighbourhood they live in," says Jeremiah Grandmond who volunteered for the event with this children.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22nd to support environmental protection.
It first started in 1970 and now includes 193 countries.
Ford City Residents Association Melissa Carey says people tend to throw away a lot of fast food items.
"A lot of it is Tim Hortons wrappers and fast food cups and bins and big bulk of leaves, so we are going to try and remove that as well."
She says Earth Day is not just about talk.
"I urge people to come out and actually do something," she says. "It is about community and working toward a common goal and that is our neighbourhood."
There are garbage bins in the park.
Other activities included a tree planting and an Easter Egg Hunt at the community garden.
