The third time might be a charm for Essex Mayoral Candidate Ron Rogers.
Rogers has twice run for the big chair, losing by only 230 votes back in 2014 — the Ward 3 counsillor took over for Bill Caixeiro after he resigned to spend more time with family last fall.
Essex Town Council has had its share of dust-ups in the past, with outgoing Mayor Ron McDermott and Ward 1 Councillor Randy Voakes consistently at odds with each other. That's something he wants to eliminate if elected.
"I believe there has been too much friction within the council and often times it overshadows the actual good things that we're doing," he says. "I have a lot of diplomacy that will work well in bringing the council together and getting our points across to each other."
Much of the town's development simply needs a push, he added.
"Highway 3, that needs to be twined and that will help with the growth of Essex Centre," says Rogers. "We're starting to see movement on our subdivisions, that's where we really need to be, is starting to push our development even more than we have at this point."
Katie McGuire-Blais, Rob Shepley, and current councillor Larry Snively will be running against Rogers. McDermott did not file for re-election.
Phil Pocock is looking to replace Deputy Mayor Richard Meloche, who will run for the position again this year.
