A clock tower on Erie St. in Windsor has now been dedicated in honour of a local doctor.
Council approved the $100,000 lime-stone structure on Erie St. and Parent Ave. — dedicated to long time family doctor and local Italian community advocate Dr. Lazarus Jovanovic — back in July of 2017.
The tower has been up since December of 2017 but still needed a few finishing touches that Via Italia BIA President Fil Rocca is happy to say have been added.
"We did some landscaping, we installed some stones on the ground, we installed some plaques in memorial of Dr. Jovanovic and for the BIA and different Italian clubs that have participated in Windsor, including the Serbian Club," says Rocca.

After nearly a year of planning, fundraising and labour, Rocca says everyone involved is just in awe of a tower that originally started at just 10-ft high. "We're at 33-ft high and made of limestone, it's 15-ft in the ground with concrete to hold this thing, it's absolutely massive," he says. "We couldn't be more proud for Erie St., Via Italia and the city of Windsor."
Mayor Drew Dilkens and several other dignitaries joined members of the Italian and Serbian communities for the ribbon cutting, but Rocca tells AM800 News there is one guest that made the day a little more special. "I wish I had a chance to meet Dr. Jovanovic, actually his son just flew in from Edmonton and he's so honoured that we've done this," says Rocca. "This came about from digging a little hole to this thing is absolutely amazing."
