Drouillard Rd. at Richmond St. designated Marina Clemens Way
A catalyst in the revitalization of Drouillard Rd. has been honoured in an unique way.
Drouillard Rd. at Richmond St. has received a special designation with a sign that reads 'Marina Clemens Way' to honour the woman who worked tirelessly at Drouillard Place.
Close to four decades ago, she was asked by a parish priest to start a community outreach centre and today Drouillard Place offers after-school and summer programs, counselling, support programs and an early childhood centre.
"I have never looked back," she says. "I have enjoyed every single minute. It has been a joy and a blessing."
Clemens retired last month as executive director of Drouillard Place and says Drouillard Rd holds a special place in her heart.
"They care about one another and they don't judge, they take you for who you are and how can we work together so that has always been a driving force for me."
She is overwhelmed by the sign and although her name is on it, she says it's about the people in the neighbourhood.
As for what kept her going, Clemens says it was her faith.
