A dog-on-dog attack in Amherstburg has the injured dog's owner offering some advice.
On Friday morning, Bill Deslippe's wife was walking their German Shepherd when another, larger dog attacked.
Deslippe told AM800 listeners on the Lynn Martin Show their dog is very protective of his wife and had barked at the other dog.
He says there was a significant size disparity between his dog and the attacking American Bulldog.
"Which was a very large dogm" says Deslipppe. "Sadie's about 60-70 pounds and this dog is 130. Apparently the dog's normally docile and behaves well, listens to commands well. That morning he decided to come running off the porch"
Deslippe says nothing people were doing to help was working to get the larger attacking dog to release.
"There were three or four grown men who had come to my wife's aid. There was a guy in a Bell van that pepper-sprayed the dog. Nothing would stop this dog from letting go and there was no way anyone could pry it off."
He says a dog trainer happened by who knew cutting off the attacking dog's air supply is the only answer.
"He jumped in and put the dog in a choke hold, he got bit by my dog because she was freaking out and two other people got bit trying to split it up by my dog, which resulted in us having to have our dog quarantined to our house for two weeks"
Deslippe says a few more seconds and his dog likely would have been killed. He says Sadie suffered 12 puncture wounds with one near the jugular.
He has been told the attacking dog's owner will be fined and the dog will be deemed dangerous, but will not be destroyed.
In addition, he says the owner of the other dog has been good, paying the vet bills and taking responsibility.
