More people have begun sharing information via social media that have allegedly been duped by Certified Windows and Doors.
Back in November, CTV Windsor uncovered at least 10 people who either paid cash or owed money on a loan from Finance It for Certified Windows and Doors work that wasn't done, that number has now hit 60.
"When collectively it comes up to more than $500,000 there has to be some answers as to why nothing's happening," says Lee Ann DesRosiers.
DesRosiers and many others are on the hook with a company called Finance It that provided signed paperwork from Certified Windows and Doors showing work had been done and money was released to the company — but no work had been done, and no one remembers signing the forms.
"Your mind is constantly on it and it takes just one thing to happen to trigger it and then you're back into it mentally again, the frustration level is just unbelievable," says DesRosiers, who didn't put down any money on her $20,000 job that wasn't even started and is being told she has to start paying her loan to Finance It next month.
More than 17-people gathered at CUPE's Union Hall on Parent Ave. to share stories and come up with a game-plan Sunday.
DesRosiers says everyone in the group covered their bases, researched the company, read paperwork, and still they're trying to find someone to fight for them.
To this point the Better Business Bureau issued an alert concerning Certified Windows and doors. Windsor Police Service would only confirm they had received complaints about the company.
New Democrat and Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield attended to observe the meeting and suggested the group select a few members to stay in contact with WPS and keep pressure on investigators.
Debra Marchand was quoted $8,500 for nine windows that never got installed, so when Finance It called to ask how her new windows turned out last August it was a bit of a shock.
"This started for me in August 2018 when Finance It phoned and said, 'hey, we want to go over your loan payments,'", she says. "In August? I've been trying to get my windows since June and I still don't have them, what do you mean? I don't have a loan, I don't even have windows. They were made aware of this very early on."
When she questioned the debt Finance It told her the issue had to be resolved between her and Certified Windows and Doors.
Since the exchange Marchand had to put a stop payment on her account, which costs her a monthly fee. She tells AM800 News the next move is to close the account to avoid the fee, but that won't fix any hits to her credit.
"Calling Equifax, making sure that this wasn't going to hurt my credit rating," says Marchand. "My husband and I have worked our entire lives to have a good credit rating, for something like this to happen at this point in our lives? Of course that's very stressful."
Several former customers in attendance who paid cash are taking legal action in small claims court, but some who owed Finance It claimed lawyers advised them they could be on the hook for more than they owe if they lose a law suit.
Certified Windows and Doors and its principle Craig O'Brien had originally blamed issues on cancelled incentive programs and clerical errors in an email to CTV News — several people in attendance at the meeting claim they were promised repayment, some even received cheques they say bounced.
None of the allegations against Certified Windows and Doors have been proven in court.
