A health promotion specialist with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit wants members of the community to carry naloxone kits.
Gillian Stager was the keynote speaker at the "Working Toward Wellness Luncheon" Wednesday afternoon.
Stager spoke about carrying the kits while highlighting the need for a workplace strategy when it comes to opioids to include policies, educating workers, training supervisors, an employee assistance program and training to administer Naloxone.
She says some social service providers have already received naloxone training, which when administered can help counteract the effects of an opioid overdose.
"We wanted to let workplaces know that there's resources out there that they can use to support their employees that might have issue with substance use, and that it's going to take a community response to be able to address some of the issues happening locally," says Stager.
