The Administrator at Street Help Homeless Centre in Windsor is bracing for a busy weekend.
With the record breaking heat expected, Christine Wilson-Furlonger is anticipating a large crowd to drop by for some bottled water, ice and just a place to cool down.
She says the centre has enough water for the weekend, but will always take more.
"It's going to be pretty tough on a lot of people," says Wilson-Furlonger. "We have quite a bit of water that we put an appeal out and a lot of donors have come through so far with quite a bit. We definitely can get through the weekend and a little more with that we got there."
Wilson-Furlonger says if you're looking to get out of the heat, the shelter's doors are open.
"People know already that they can come here and stock up on water and even take some ice with them if they need it," says Wilson-Furlonger. "They can bring a container for it, we'll supply that as well because it's very important that people stay as hydrated as possible and as cool as possible."
She says the centre's central air unit is up and running.
"It's working just fine and we do have enough room to accommodate quite a few more people if needed," says Wilson-Furlonger. "We would even open the other side if we had too."
The Salvation Army location on Church St. in Windsor will be open 24-hours as well.
Major Paul Rideout says the Sally Ann will allow people to cool off in the A/C and will also provide water.
The regularly scheduled community meal from 5:30pm to 6:30pm will go ahead as planned.
Meanwhile, the Downtown Mission is already feeling the heat.
It's sanctuary program is already at capacity with more than 100 people sleeping over night at the shelter.
Officials say they will not turn away people if they need shelter.
