The stats don't lie when it comes to the popularity of what's become the biggest day for deals of the year on both sides of the Border.
Black Friday weekend has now eclipsed Boxing Day as the best time to get deals, according to the Retail Council of Canada's 2018 Holiday Shopping Survey.
A whopping 40% of the more than 2,000 Canadians surveyed plan on taking advantage of Black Friday sales — a trend that Devonshire Mall Marketing Director Karen Niforos has seen firsthand.
"We've taken over the American trend probably about five, six-years ago where Canadians perhaps didn't want to cross the borders," she says. "Canadian retailers have really stepped it up."
Niforos tells AM800 News it's all hands on deck for what marks the first day of the Christmas shopping season for many.
"We have seasonal help at guest services, security, all departments all the way around. Of course all the stores have as well." she says. "Just by talking to stores and anticipating their sales and seeing what's out there, I think we're going to have some fun."
The survey also shows almost half of shoppers plan on taking advantage of online sales, but those stats may have been gathered before rotating strikes caused a back-log in deliveries from Canada Post.
