It's a landmark year for the North American International Auto Show as it prepares to break out of Cobo Centre for the summer of 2020.
This will mark the last time the event will be a January event in Detroit, it will move to June next year.
Auto Show Chair Bill Golling started working in the auto industry in 1965. He tells CTV Windsor the show has already adapted and the move to the summer months in 2020 will be the next phase of that change.
"We've certainly seen a huge change of the industry over the past four-five years, and you take a look at not only where it's going to be in five-years, but in 30-years and that's wild," he says. "The transformation has been taking place for the past number of years ... this year we're going to have some technology pods on the floor, as well as some car movement on the floor so we'll have some activation here."
Golling says warm weather, means the show can expand outside the convention centre to get vehicles moving so people, "can experience the products ... It is truly a blank canvas of what we can do when it comes to the June 2020 show."
In addition to allowing people to see more vehicles in action, Golling says moving some of the show outdoors will be a bigger boost to local businesses.
Press days and car unveilings for this year's show begin on January 14th — the show is open to the public starting on January 19th.
