Residents in Amhersburg, Essex and Leamington, living along the waterfront, now have access to sandbags to protect their property.
Amherstburg is now offering sandbags for people living on the water's edge from County Rd 41 to Malden Rd., as well as properties in the South Riverview area. They can pick up 100 sandbags per property.
Bags can be picked up Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm at the Public Works Dept. at 512 Sandwich Street South.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Works South yard at 6744 Concession 6 South.
In Essex, residents in Colchester can pick up sandbags at Colchester Harbour from 7am to 9pm daily. Sand for the bags will be available at the Colchester Schoolhouse at 195 Bagot St.
Sandbags will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents in Leamington can pick up sandbags at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex and a sandbag filling station with free sand is available at 435 Bevel Line Rd. They are asked to bring their own shovel and keep in mind, bags weigh about 40 pounds.
The city of Windsor is also offering help in the form of sandbags at the end of Little River Rd, just east of Little River until May 22. It applies to residents living on the north side of Riverside Dr. from George Ave. to the town of Tecumseh.
The sandbag station will have a city staff member on hand Monday to Saturday, but the bags and filling of the bags are the responsibility of residents.
Lakeshore is also supporting residents and supplying sand and sandbags at two locations at 1089 County Rd 25 (go straight through the gate) and 2065 County Rd 31 (go through the gate – stay to the left).
The sand supplies in Lakeshore is available until 6pm tonight as well on Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
