Advanced polls at Devonshire Mall in Windsor drew a crowd in front the former Sears location on Saturday.
The first of five chances for Windsorites to cast their vote is in the books, and getting out there and voting is something Ward 5 resident Terri Banfill makes a habit of.
Banfill brought both her sons, one of which is a first time voter, and her friend Kimberly Peters. She would only say there needs to be more transparency and things need to change when asked about who she chose as mayor, but did say she voted for Ward 5 Candidate Joey Wright.
"In my ward particularly, we have a lot of issues that need to be worked on, a lot of communication, the neighbourhood is a community that is close-knit and we need someone who lives in the ward who understands the issues," she says.
Banfill has been voting in Ward 5 for more than 45-years. She tells AM800 News it's good to get it out of the way early.
"I want people to get out there and vote," says Banfill. "We're timing it actually and I think it took less than five minutes. There are signs all over, there's no excuse not to vote."
Peters bought her first house in Ward 9 four years ago, and says owning property spurred more interest in politics. She voted for Ward 9 Candidate Kieran McKenzie, saying his acknowledgment of traffic issues swayed her.
She also wants to see Matt Marchand as Windsor's next mayor.
"Kind of gave me a little more information as to a little bit of a different change than what we've had the last four years," says Peters.
The next advanced poll is Tuesday at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex from 10am to 8pm.
