One of the victims of Amherstburg resident Richard Massen says his health should not keep him out of jail.
The 87-year-old Massen pled guilty to gross indecency and indecent assault and has been sentenced to two years less a day of house arrest.
Court was told Massen abused three boys who were then 11 and 13 at different times from 1969 to 1981.
The victims can't be identified under a ban on publication, but outside the courthouse Friday one of them spoke to AM800's Peter Langille.
He says the length of time of the court process is the reason Massen has escaped jail time.
"When these incidents happened he was healthy and I was a child and also he was charged seven years ago and he was a lot healthier then and he prolonged, put off, any way he could to have this put off as long as possible."
The victim says Massen's abuse caused him great pain.
"It destroyed my life and my family life for a time, which we reconciled."
He says he is relieved this is now behind him.
"That it's finished at least now and I can move forward. It's not really good energy to be angry."
Court heard an impact statement from one of the three victims that the abuse had led to substance abuse, prostitution and contracting HIV.
Massen has significant health issues, but has been placed on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life.
