A Leamington councillor is looking for a new challenge.
Larry Verbeke has filed his nomination papers and is seeking the deputy mayor's seat.
Verbeke has sat on council for the last two terms and decided to make the jump after hearing current deputy mayor Hilda MacDonald is running for the mayor's position.
"The deputy mayor told me that she was thinking about running and I thought you know what if she thinks to move up, I'm going to move up and that's how I did it," says Verbeke. "My biggest goal is what you can do on county council but I'm just looking forward to I guess another challenge."
He says he enjoys fighting for the community.
"I enjoy it and cruising up and down the roads here north of the bypass daily with some issues and side roads and lights and poles and I enjoy it," says Verbeke.
As of today, there are no other candidates seeking the deputy mayor's seat.
The municipal election is October 25th.
