Provincial Police have been contacted after racist graffiti was found on the Caldwell First Nation land in Leamington.
Several signs were vandalized with racist graffiti including one sign that had the words "White Power" spray painted on it.
An image of the vandalism was posted on Leamington Mayor John Paterson's Facebook page.
Paterson tells AM800 News he was contacted by Caldwell First Nations Chief Louise Hillier Sunday morning about the vandalism. He says it was disappointing and disgusting.
He hopes the perpetrator needs help.
"Seek counselling I guess," says Mayor Paterson. "There is something wrong with your thought process and you need to gain a better understanding of the reality of today.
In his Facebook post, Paterson says "I hope this was not done by a Leamington resident and I hope the OPP will be able to track down the person or persons who used such racist language on the Caldwell First Nations property. All three of their signs plus several of the smaller ones have been defaced by someone with a total lack of intelligence and morals. Anyone knowing who may have done this, please contact the OPP. The sooner the person is found the, quicker the resolution."
Paterson also posted "I have spoken with Chief Louise Hillier. She, her Council and Band members are in talks with the OPP. Hopefully it is just a matter of time before the guilty are found."
