A former Essex town councillor is expressing interest in the now vacant Ward 3 seat.
Mayor Ron McDermott announced at Tuesday night's town council meeting that Bill Caixeiro was resigning for unknown reasons.
John Scott ran for re-election in 2014 but lost to Caixeiro by seven votes.
While he held the seat for only one term, Scott says he has stayed connected with the municipality and is looking at his options. "I serve on the Committee of Adjustments. We lived there for 20 years, so I'm in touch with the administration right now to see what my options are about the vacancy."

But since the last election, Scott moved out of the Harrow-Colchester area and now lives in Windsor. "There's a couple challenges around that to that we're getting clarification on because the nature that I'm not a resident any longer, but there are some other exceptions to be able to fulfill that vacancy that might apply to me. So I'm looking at that right now and then I'll have to carefully consider with my family if this is something that I'm interested in."
Council is set to receive a report at its next meeting, set for July 17th, to go over options for filling the vacancy.
There are two main options councillors will have to consider — appointing a new councillor or holding a by-election.
