In an effort to help clear up a backlog of refugees waiting to start a new life in Canada, the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor is taking action.
Staff and students have written a letter to the federal government asking for improvements to the application process.
A public information session is also planned for tonight on how to help refugees apply.
Associate Professor Anneke Smit says while Canada has made positive moves to welcome refugees, more needs to be done. "It's also equally important that we hold our own government accountable and when we're sending a message out to the world that we're welcoming and we're open and we're accepting of all people, that we put our money where our mouth is."
As much as $25-million is being held in trust by sponsor groups waiting to welcome refugees.
The town hall event at Fogolar Furlan runs from 7pm to 9pm and is open to everyone.
The event is being put on by the faculty at the University of Windsor Law and the Windsor Law Refugee Sponsorship groups.
