Force used by Windsor Police is down.
In its annual 'Use of Force' report, there were 190 incidents last year, compared to 225 in 2015.
It's a drop of 16%.
Windsor Police Inspector Tom Crowley says officers are doing their job. "We have to credit the officers on the road for using a very good restraint, understanding what their powers are and following policy good supervision and good training, it comes down to all that."
The use of a Taser is up. In 2016, it was used 60 times, compared to 47 times in 2015. "It is known to be a very safe option," says Crowley. "The injuries, the safety part of it is resulting in limited injuries to the subject and officer and the other part is that it is effective."
A firearm was fired 6 times last year, all required to put down an animal.
A gun was pointed at a person 124 times, down from 152 in 2015.
In comparison to the number of calls for service for Windsor Police, the use of force represents less than 0.2% of the time.
