Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored in a shootout to lift the United States to a 3-2 win over Canada in the women's hockey championship game at the Winter Olympics in South Korea.
Rookie American goalie Maddie Rooney stopped Ruthven's Meghan Agosta to win the game.
Agosta had scored earlier in the shootout and was called upon to be Canada's first shooter after the two teams were still tied after the first five attempts failed to end the game.
The win was redemption for the Americans, who lost in overtime four years ago in Sochi.
Hilary Knight and Monique Lamoureux-Morando scored in regulation for the Americans.
Marie-Philip Poulin and Haley Irwin replied for Canada.
Canada had won the four straight golds, losing only in 1998 when women's hockey made its Olympic debut.
No final had ever been decided by a shootout.
