A 5-3 loss at the hands of the Sarnia Sting at the WFCU Centre Thursday has Windsor in the midst of a four-game-skid.
The Spitfires jumped out early with two quick goals from Luke Boka and Daniel D’Amico, but Sarnia pulled back within one after Jordan Kyrou found the back of the net late in the first.
Chris Playfair’s goal gave Windsor a little breathing room and put the Spits up 3-1 to start the third. Sarnia potted two unanswered-goals heading into the third to lock things up 3-3 and never looked back.
The Sting tallied twice to start the third to pull away to a 5-3 finish.
Windsor coach Trevor Letowski says the boys left it all on the ice Thursday.
"Thought we gave it everything we had, especially our defence, it was really young tonight ... a lot of minutes for those guys," Letowski says. "They started to wear us down as the game got further along but we're not going to hang our heads after that game, that's for sure."
Spits defensman Nathan Staios says it was a tough loss.
"In the end I thought we played pretty good but we just couldn't get the bounces at the end," he says. "We were up 3-1 and we couldn't come out with the win against a good team. It would have been a big win for us, but we just have to bounce back Saturday against Barrie."
Windsor native Anthony Salinitri scored two for Sarnia in the win.
He has 20-goals this season, reaching 150-points on his career and he did it infront of family and friends.
"To be honest with you I wish I knew, I get a lot of bounces in other games and they don't go my way, but I've been fortunate enough to get a few good bounces here that have gone my way," he says. "It's extra special playing here. I have a big family and they all come out to support, friends included, so it's always exciting playing here and you can definitely hear them."
Windsor head’s into Barrie’s Molson Centre Saturday to take on the Colts. The puck drops at 7:30pm. Tune into AM800 for all the action.
