Talks are resuming between the province and the union representing Catholic teachers in Ontario.
At the request of a mediator, representatives with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association will meet with the government on Wednesday.
"We are ready to get back to the table, but the government needs to recognize that these discussions must be about protecting our world-renowned publicly funded education system," says OECTA President Liz Stuart.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says students belong in class.
"My objective has always been to reach deals with our education labour partners - deals that are fair to students, hard-working parents, and our valued teachers and education workers," he says. "I am pleased the mediator has called all parties back to the negotiating table, as we have always said, we stand ready to negotiate to reach a deal that keeps students in class."
The union has also announced that if an agreement is not reached, members will begin rotating strikes next week.
Local Catholic teachers will take part in a one-day strike on Friday, February 28th.
It is in addition to the one-day strike on Friday, February 21st involving all teacher unions in the province.
